In unincorporated Lee County, you may not use a required off-street parking or loading space for merchandise display or rental-vehicle parking, and stopping to load or unload is barred in signed and prohibited areas. Commercial developments must provide off-street loading under the LDC.
Lee County's parking regulations require that off-street loading and parking spaces stay available for their purpose: LDC Sec. 34-1352(d) states that no parking space or loading zone required by the parking regulations may be used for merchandise display or parking of rental vehicles. Under Code of Ordinances Sec. 28-104, stopping, standing, or parking, including for loading or unloading, is prohibited at signed locations, on crosswalks and sidewalks, near safety zones, and on limited-access facility shoulders except in emergencies. Required off-street loading berths for commercial and industrial uses are set through the LDC's parking and site-design standards administered by Lee County DCD.
Misuse of a loading zone or unlawful stopping is enforced by Code Enforcement and the Sheriff under Code Sec. 28-104 and FS Ch. 316; vehicles may be ticketed or removed.
