City-specific rules exist: Simi Valley, Camarillo, Ventura, Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, and Oxnard have their own height limits rules that differ from Ventura County's county-level regulations. If you live in one of those cities, check the city-specific page instead.

A maximum seven-foot-tall solid fence may be located on lots, including in the locations listed in Section 8106-8.1.1(b)(3) below, except that no solid fence over three (3) feet tall may be placed in a:(1)Required sight triangle,(2)Required setback adjacent to a street, or(3)Ten-foot by ten-foot right triangle on each side of a driveway on a side property line.

Full Breakdown

The County Ordinance Code caps solid fences at seven feet on residential and other lots, but limits them to three feet within a required sight triangle, a required setback adjacent to a street, or a 10-by-10-foot driveway visibility triangle. See-through fences may reach five feet in a front setback or seven feet on lots of 20,000 square feet or more. Rules apply only outside the ten incorporated cities.

Violations & Fines

Fence violations of Article 6 are misdemeanor/infractions under County Code §§ 13 and 13.1, and are also enforceable through civil penalties under Article 14, prosecuted by the Planning Director or Code Compliance Director of the Resource Management Agency.
