Haltom City limits residential fences to 6 feet in rear and side yards and 4 feet in front yards. Corner lots have visibility triangle limits. Non-residential fences may reach 8 feet with permit review.
Under the Haltom City zoning ordinance, residential fences in rear and interior side yards are limited to a maximum of 6 feet in height, measured from the adjacent finished grade. Front-yard fences are capped at 4 feet, and any front-yard fence within the setback must be open-style (wrought iron or picket) rather than solid board. Corner lots must maintain a visibility triangle at the intersection where fence height inside the triangle is limited to 30 inches to preserve sight lines for drivers. Non-residential fences, including screening for industrial and commercial properties along Denton Highway and Loop 820, may extend up to 8 feet with administrative review and building permit. Fences exceeding the height limits require a variance from the Zoning Board of Adjustment. Pool-barrier fences follow a separate standard of 48-inch minimum with self-closing and self-latching gates under the adopted International Residential Code. Contact the Building Inspections division at City Hall, (817) 222-7700.
Class C misdemeanor; fine up to 500 dollars per day. Non-compliant fences must be brought into compliance or removed after notice from Code Enforcement.
