Jonesboro, AR Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Sec. 117-329(1) sets Jonesboro's general fence height ceiling at six feet, with taller fences allowed only by planning commission approval. A lower four-foot cap applies to fences placed in the front yard, but only if the fence is at least 50 percent open, such as split-rail or picket styles; solid front-yard fencing is held to the same six-foot limit as the rest of the lot. The height limitation does not apply at all in the I-1 and I-2 industrial districts, on property abutting interstate highways, around tennis courts and similar recreational amenities, or on any lot or tract of five acres or more, where fences may be built taller without commission review.

Sec. 117-329(2) separately requires every fence to comply with the corner visibility standard in Sec. 117-327: on corner lots where two-way streets intersect, nothing, fences included, may be erected, planted, or allowed to grow between two feet and eight feet above curb grade inside the triangular sight area. That triangle is formed by the street-side property lines and a line connecting points 25 feet from the intersection along each property line. The city may enlarge the required triangle where traffic safety warrants it, and may reduce it at intersections involving a one-way street. A fence built into that triangle above two feet, even if it otherwise meets the six-foot height rule, is out of compliance.
