Wellington, FL Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Section 6.4.1.A.5.k of Wellington's Land Development Regulations sets a table of maximum fence, wall, and hedge heights that varies by lot size and location, not a single village-wide number. On a residential lot under one acre, a fence tops out at six feet along the side and rear property lines but drops to three feet within the required front setback; a wall on the same lot is capped at six feet and a hedge at eight feet. Common areas of residential developments, residential lots of one acre or more, and non-residential properties get more height: six feet for fences on one-acre-plus residential lots and eight feet everywhere else in that category, with walls up to eight feet and hedges up to ten feet.

Along a designated major thoroughfare, collector, or minor arterial road, fences and walls are held to six feet and hedges to eight feet regardless of lot size. Section 6.4.1.A.5.n normally limits any fence, wall, or hedge inside the front building setback to three feet, but carves out an exception for lots of one acre or more that sit within the Equestrian Preserve Area or carry a Residential A or B future land use designation, which may install up to a six-foot fence, wall, or hedge in that front setback.

Heights are measured from the average of the highest and lowest grade along the property line under Section 6.4.1.A.5.j, and any fence, wall, or hedge near an intersection or driveway must also clear the safe sight triangle standards in Article 6 of the LDR per Section 6.4.1.A.5.i.
