Wellington, FL Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Wellington has no citywide mandate requiring electric vehicle charging stations in parking lots or driveways. The Land Development Regulations instead use EV charging as one item on a menu of voluntary sustainability measures that unlock additional discretion in two specific approvals. For Multiple Use Planned Developments, Section 6.5.6.H requires the Village Council to weigh the percentage of land allocated to each use type in the master plan, and Section 6.5.6.H.1.iv lists 'at least two facets of sustainable development' a project can offer to strengthen that allocation request, including a renewable energy source such as solar or wind power, or dedicating at least five percent of the required non-residential and residential common-area on-site parking to Level 2 or Direct-Current fast EV charging stations.

Other listed facets include green building design, recycled or eco-friendly construction materials, water conservation, and waste reduction or recycling; a project needs at least two of these, and EV charging is only one option among several. Separately, Section 6.2.2.E.9.p.vii lets a self-storage facility within an MUPD earn up to a 0.05 floor-area-ratio bonus by installing public Level 2-or-better charging ports, at 0.01 FAR per port up to 0.04 FAR, plus an extra 0.01 FAR if every station stays free to use for at least five years. In both cases, EV charging is a bonus feature Wellington rewards, not a parking requirement it imposes.
