Jupiter, FL Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Section 27-2992 sets the land development regulations for every automotive fueling station in Jupiter, and subsection (6) is dedicated to electric vehicle charging. It requires at least one electric vehicle rapid charging station containing a CHAdeMO and Combined Charging Standard (CCS) handle, with a minimum output of 50 kilowatts, to be installed and maintained at any automotive fueling station that includes a convenience store or other commercial use. The charger does not need a dedicated stall built from scratch: subsection (6)(b) lets the town site it at a standard parking stall that already meets the parking design standards in section 27-2833, so long as a sign is posted prohibiting any vehicle from parking there except one actively using the charger.

The requirement sits alongside the rest of Division 37's fueling-station standards, which the town adopted, per section 27-2990, to minimize the impact of fueling stations on surrounding commercial and residential neighborhoods. Those neighboring rules include a 100-foot setback of any fueling position from a residential zoning district or the residential subdistrict of the Mixed Use Development District, and a separate requirement in subsection (7) that every fueling station be prewired with a transfer switch able to run all pumps, dispensers, and safety and payment systems on backup power for at least 72 hours, with a generator operating within four hours of a storm.

The EV charging mandate applies to new construction and redevelopment reviewed under this section; it is a site-plan and building-permit requirement administered by the department of planning and zoning, not a retrofit mandate imposed on stations that predate Ordinance No. 44-14.
