Wellington, FL Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Sec. 22-9(B) sets Wellington's residential parking-surface rule. Subsection B(1) prohibits parking a motor vehicle in any portion of a yard or landscaped area that is clearly visible from the street or adjoining properties, unless it's on the paved driveway or an approved alternative surface, or otherwise permitted elsewhere in the section. Subsection A limits the reach of the whole section to residential zoning districts and residential land use categories, but expressly carves out properties within the Equestrian Overlay Zoning District (EOZD) and its designated subareas, reflecting the ranch-style lots common around Palm Beach Little Ranches and Rustic Ranches.

Subsection B(2) layers on a related restriction that applies villagewide, including inside the EOZD: no inoperative, unregistered, or untagged vehicle, including a golf cart, may be parked or stored on any property or right-of-way, though one unregistered or untagged vehicle may stay if it is completely screened from view of adjacent roads and properties. Subsection B(3) bars outdoor mechanical repair work on a vehicle, other than minor maintenance like an oil or tire change, or an emergency repair lasting no more than eight hours, on a vehicle owned by a resident of that property.

Subsection B(4) allows one golf cart, and any low-speed vehicle Wellington otherwise permits, to be parked under the Code. Because the paved-driveway requirement is a subsection of the same section governing commercial vehicles and RVs, a driveway that satisfies Sec. 22-9(B)(1) for an ordinary car does not automatically clear the separate one-hour or screening rules that Sec. 22-9(C) and (D) apply to commercial vehicles, boats, and trailers parked on that same driveway.
