League City regulates fences through the Unified Development Code (Chapter 125). Chain link fencing is prohibited in front yards. An 8-foot fence is required along property lines adjoining Open Space parcels when adjacent to zoning districts requiring a buffer. Fence permits are required for new installations.
Under League City's UDC, chain link fencing is only prohibited in front yards. Developments must provide an 8-foot tall fence along property lines adjoining Open Space parcels if the Open Space parcel is adjacent to a zoning district that would require a buffer. If a fence is provided in a Type B or C buffer yard, the required buffer width may be reduced by 5 feet. Fence permits are obtained through the Building Department.
Building without a permit is a violation of Chapter 22 of the Code of Ordinances. Fines may apply for unpermitted construction. Report violations by calling 311 or 281-554-1480.
