Mosinee, WI Fence Regulations: Material Restrictions (2026)

Section 42-788(c)(5), "Front yard fences," imposes a distinct set of material and style rules on top of the general height limits elsewhere in § 42-788(c). Any fence located within a required front yard in a residence district must be "decorative only" and cannot exceed 50 percent opacity, meaning a solid panel fence does not qualify even if it stays under the height cap. That decorative fence must sit at least three feet back from the front property line and at least three feet from any driveway, and its height is capped at four feet above ground level, though decorative post caps are allowed to rise up to 12 additional inches above that four-foot line.

The subsection then names the excluded finishes and materials outright: "day-glow paints or colors are not permitted," and chain-link, wire-mesh and privacy fences "are not permitted within any portion of a required front yard" at all, regardless of setback or opacity. Those same materials remain available for side and rear yards, where only the general height and setback rules in § 42-788(b) and (c)(1) through (c)(4) apply, so the ban is specific to the front-yard zone rather than citywide.
