East Baton Rouge Parish, LA Fence Regulations: Material Restrictions (2026)

The UDC lists material standards for fences and walls. Chain-link fences may be permitted in all areas of the parish other than the Downtown character area, and up to ten feet high in M zoning districts. Open wire fences up to ten feet may enclose recreational facilities such as tennis and badminton courts. Walls containing more than 50 percent exposed standard concrete masonry blocks are not allowed, whether painted or not, so decorative facing or stucco is needed on block walls. Wood fences (a common six-foot wood board fence is the sheet's example) are permitted subject to the eight-foot height cap and setback rules. All materials and costs must be listed on the permit site plan.
