Small backyard recreational fires — fire pits, chimineas, and cooking fires — are allowed in La Habra under the adopted L.A. County Fire Code § 307. They must be small, use clean dry fuel, stay 25 feet from structures, and be attended. Burning trash or yard waste is prohibited.
La Habra enforces the County of Los Angeles Fire Code (LHMC 15.46). Under § 307.4.2, a backyard recreational fire is limited to a fuel area 3 feet or less across and 2 feet or less high, and must be at least 25 feet from any structure. A manufactured portable fireplace or chiminea follows § 307.4.3 (15-ft clearance, with a one- and two-family dwelling exception). Section 307.5 requires the fire be constantly attended until fully out, with an extinguisher, hose, or dirt ready. Only clean, dry firewood may be used — no trash, leaves, or debris. The South Coast AQMD prohibits burning waste and issues winter No-Burn Day alerts that suspend outdoor wood burning.
A backyard fire that exceeds size or clearance limits, is unattended, burns prohibited materials, or occurs on an AQMD no-burn day can be ordered extinguished and cited by L.A. County Fire under the adopted code (LHMC 15.46).
