Corvallis, OR Fire Regulations: Brush Clearance (2026)

Corvallis Municipal Code Section 7.08.120 amends Oregon Fire Code Sections 304.1.1 and 304.1.2 as locally adopted Sections 304.1.1.1 and 304.1.2.1. Section 304.1.1.1, Waste material, forbids letting waste paper, wood, hay, straw, cut weeds, litter, or combustible or flammable waste or rubbish of any type accumulate on a roof or in any court, yard, vacant lot, alley, parking lot, open space, or beneath a grandstand, bleacher, pier or wharf. Section 304.1.2.1, Vegetation, requires the owner or occupant of a premises to cut down and remove weeds, grass, vines or other growth that is readily capable of being ignited by available ignition sources under OFC Section 305 and that endangers property.

In areas the Oregon State Fire Marshal has classified as HIGH or EXTREME wildfire risk, vegetation clearance must additionally comply with the International Wildland-Urban Interface Code's Sections 603 and 604, brought into City rules through Section 7.08.135's Wildland-Urban Interface Areas provisions, which also make the property owner or authorized agent responsible for maintaining any required defensible space. The Corvallis Fire Chief enforces these standards and, if a hazardous accumulation or vegetation condition is not corrected within the compliance period set in an abatement notice, may clean up or abate it at the owner's expense under Section 7.08.100's cost-recovery procedure.

Separately, the Fire Code's civil penalty schedule at Section 7.08.080 (OFC 110.4.8.2(s)) authorizes a civil fine of $75.00 to $200.00 for permitting an accumulation of waste material in violation of the Corvallis Fire Code, on top of the Class C Misdemeanor exposure of up to $500.00 or 30 days under Section 7.08.080's general violation provision.
