Lee's Summit's Property Maintenance Code caps weeds and plant growth at 10 inches and requires owners to keep vegetation cut. Large undeveloped tracts must still mow a 50-foot strip along roads and next to homes.
Chapter 16, Sec. 16-203 (amending IPMC Section 302.4) requires premises to be kept free of weeds or plant growth over 10 inches, with noxious weeds prohibited. Agricultural vegetation and undeveloped tracts over 10 acres are exempt, but those tracts must still keep all areas within 50 feet of a public roadway or adjacent residential and commercial property mowed below 10 inches. Dead, dying, or diseased trees must be pruned or removed under Section 302.10 so they do not threaten neighboring property. The Codes Administration division enforces after written notice.
After a notice of violation, the city may enter and cut the weeds and bill the owner. Property Maintenance Code fines run $50 first offense up to $500 for repeat offenses.
