North Las Vegas, NV Fire Regulations: Brush Clearance (2026)

NLVMC Title 9 (Nuisances) requires property owners to keep their lots free of dry weeds, tumbleweeds, dead vegetation, and accumulated brush that create fire hazards. Lots must be cleared of vegetation taller than 6 to 8 inches during fire season (typically May through October, the hottest dry months). The city Code Compliance Division patrols and responds to complaints in neighborhoods like Aliante and the older central corridor along Lake Mead Boulevard. Violators receive a written notice, usually with 10 to 30 days to comply. If the owner fails to act, the city may abate the nuisance (hire a contractor to mow and clear) and bill the owner, placing a lien on the property if unpaid. Defensible space rules apply to properties along the wildland-urban interface at the northern edge of the city, nearer to federal land and the Sheep Range. Homeowners in those areas should maintain a 30-foot lean, clean, and green zone around structures per Nevada Division of Forestry recommendations under NRS 472. Tumbleweeds (Russian thistle) are the most persistent problem species in NLV.
