North Las Vegas, NV Fire Regulations: Outdoor Burning (2026)

North Las Vegas, like the rest of Clark County, prohibits open outdoor burning of trash, leaves, yard waste, construction debris, and tumbleweeds. Clark County Department of Air Quality enforces this under federal Clean Air Act obligations because the Las Vegas Valley is a PM10 non-attainment area. NLVMC Title 8 (Fire Protection) ties local enforcement to the state fire marshal under NRS 477. The only exceptions are ceremonial or religious fires with a permit, agricultural burns on designated ag-zoned parcels with a burn permit from Clark County DES, and firefighter training. Even these are subject to burn-day calls and wind conditions. Wood-burning recreational fires in a permanent, manufactured fire pit or chiminea are generally allowed if fuel is clean cordwood only (no painted, treated, or painted wood, no trash, no leaves). Portable wood fire pits are subject to closer scrutiny and can be ordered out if smoke complaints arise. Propane and natural gas fire features are allowed and are the safest choice in the dry, windy desert climate. Violations can trigger both local fire code citations and federal air-quality penalties.
