North Las Vegas, NV Fire Regulations: Wildfire Zones (2026)

Most of North Las Vegas sits in flat valley basin with limited wildfire exposure, but the northern edge of the city and the Aliante master-plan border the Sheep Range and BLM-managed desert scrub. These properties are considered wildland-urban interface (WUI) under Nevada Division of Forestry and Clark County Fire Department mapping. WUI homeowners should maintain defensible space under NRS 472 and NFPA 1144: a 30-foot lean, clean, and green zone around structures (remove dead vegetation, prune trees 10 feet from chimneys, remove flammable debris from gutters and roofs), plus a 100-foot reduced-fuel zone where possible. Class A roofing (tile, concrete, metal) is the norm and is required for new construction. Ember-resistant vents, 1/8-inch mesh screens on attic and crawlspace vents, and enclosed eaves help prevent wind-driven ember intrusion. Red-flag days in summer trigger heightened enforcement and possible restrictions on outdoor activities. Insurance companies increasingly require defensible space certification for homeowners near the northern WUI edge. The city participates in the Clark County Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
