Henderson designates WUI zones near Sloan Canyon, McCullough Mountains, and Black Mountain under IFC Chapter 49. Homes must meet Class A roofing, ember-resistant vents, and enhanced defensible space.
Henderson adopts the International Fire Code (IFC) Chapter 49 Wildland-Urban Interface through NRS 477.030 and local amendments. Designated WUI areas include MacDonald Highlands, Anthem Country Club, Inspirada, Tuscany Village, Ascaya, Sun City Anthem, and any parcel abutting open desert, BLM land, or the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. New construction and major remodels in WUI zones must use Class A roof assemblies (non-combustible), 1/8-inch mesh ember-resistant attic and foundation vents, tempered dual-pane windows, and non-combustible siding within 5 feet of the ground. Decks within 10 feet of a structure must be non-combustible or ignition-resistant. Defensible space is expanded to 30 feet Zone 1 and 100 feet Zone 2 where parcel allows. Henderson Fire conducts WUI plan review during building permits. Existing homes are not retroactively required to upgrade but must maintain defensible space. Homeowners insurance carriers increasingly require compliance before renewing policies in McCullough foothill areas.
WUI construction violations: permit denial and stop-work order. Failure to maintain defensible space: 250 dollars and escalating fines, abatement lien.
