Portable outdoor fireplaces and small recreational fires are allowed if in an approved device, 15 feet from structures, burning only clean wood, and attended at all times. Prohibited during Red Flag warnings per IFC 307.
Under the International Fire Code 307 adopted through HMC Title 6, recreational fires in Henderson are permitted only in manufactured portable outdoor fireplaces, chimineas, fire pits, or approved gas fire features. Wood-burning recreational fires must be 3 feet or less in diameter, burn only dry seasoned firewood (no yard waste, construction scrap, or trash), be located at least 15 feet from any structure or combustible, and be constantly attended by a responsible adult with extinguishing means (hose or extinguisher) readily available. Gas fire features (natural gas or propane) with permanent gas lines are preferred and common in Henderson backyards. Portable outdoor fireplaces (UL-listed) require only 3 feet clearance. All recreational fires are prohibited during Red Flag Warnings issued by the National Weather Service and during DAQ No-Burn air quality advisories. Fires in the WUI zones may face additional restrictions during fire season May through October. HOAs in Anthem, Inspirada, and MacDonald Ranch may further restrict or prohibit wood-burning fires.
Unattended fire: misdemeanor citation. Fire during Red Flag Warning: 500 dollars and up. Fire causing wildfire: felony arson with full restitution.
