Coeur d'Alene, ID Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Chapter 8.12 of the Coeur d'Alene Municipal Code makes it unlawful to import, export, offer for sale, sell, possess, keep or store any fireworks other than nonaerial common fireworks. The one exception is a person holding a special fireworks permit from the Fire Department, who can run a safely supervised public display. Sky lanterns, defined as unmanned devices with a fuel source and an open flame, cannot be released, tethered or untethered, inside the city, and releasing one outside the city so that it sets fire to property inside the city is also unlawful.

Section 8.12.030 limits sale and discharge to the window between 8:00 A.M. on June 23 and 10:00 P.M. on July 5 each year, with stand hours of 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. Retail sellers file an application with the City Clerk no later than May 15. A special or theatrical display application goes to the Fire Department at least twenty days before the event. The Fire Chief investigates each application and the Council can grant or deny it with conditions.

Section 8.12.050 sets stand rules: temporary stands only, no sales from permanent buildings, at least two exits at least thirty inches wide, two 2-A rated 2.5-gallon water extinguishers, no smoking within twenty five feet, vegetation cleared twenty feet on each side, a floor area of no more than seven hundred fifty square feet, and an adult supervisor at all times. No child under sixteen can be inside or sell. Stands must sit at least twenty five feet from other buildings, fifty feet from the property line of a gas station or flammable liquid storage, and one hundred feet from fuel dispensers. A one hundred dollar bond guarantees removal by July 10. Fireworks cannot be delivered to or stored on residential property, and unsold stock must leave the city by July 26. Paper cap toys of not more than 0.25 grain per compound cap are excluded.
