Hammond, IN Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Hammond Code of Ordinances § 93.066 prohibits the use of fireworks anywhere within Hammond city limits except during specific windows: 5:00 p.m. to two hours after sunset on June 29, 30, July 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9; 10:00 a.m. to midnight on July 4; and 10:00 a.m. December 31 through 1:00 a.m. January 1. Outside those hours and dates, discharging fireworks anywhere in the city, residential yards included, is unlawful. A company or individual that needs an exception outside the listed windows must apply for a waiver through the Hammond Board of Works.

This discharge ban is separate from § 93.006, which bars using, discharging or detonating fireworks, pyrotechnics or explosive materials inside any enclosed building in the city at any time, and from the fireworks-stand licensing rules in §§ 93.060-93.065, which require a $25 transient merchant's license, a Building Commissioner-inspected stand at least 4 feet by 8 feet by 7 feet built to code, and Fire Prevention Bureau approval before any retail sales. Indiana's State Fire Marshal, acting locally through the Hammond Fire Chief as ex officio Assistant State Fire Marshal, administers the separate state licensing statute for fireworks stands under I.C. 22-11-14.
