Lee County, NC Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Sec. 18-37(c) of the general parks article addresses fireworks under the 'Nuisances' heading: possessing, exploding, discharging or burning within, or bringing into, any park area any fireworks or other potentially dangerous inflammable material is prohibited. The only carve-out in the section is for a bona fide emergency, when discharging a distress signal is permitted. San-Lee Educational and Recreational Park has its own parallel ban at Sec. 18-63(6), stated more simply: it is not permitted to discharge or use fireworks of any kind or nature in the park.

Both provisions sit inside articles enforced by the county parks and recreation department and, for major incidents, the sheriff's office and the county fire marshal under the separate emergency services chapter. Sec. 18-32 sets the general parks penalty at a flat $100.00 civil penalty, with expulsion from the park an additional consequence at the discretion of park staff; Sec. 18-62 sets the identical $100.00 civil penalty and expulsion option for San-Lee Park violations. Because both sections describe park property specifically, the ban reaches every county park and recreation site, including athletic fields such as Horton Park, Buchanan Park, Dalrymple Park and O.T.

Sloan Park. The fireworks ban in the parks chapter is separate from any general county or state fireworks statute governing private property in unincorporated Lee County; this ordinance is limited in reach to property the parks and recreation department controls.
