Under Ohio HB 172 (2022), you may discharge 1.4G consumer fireworks on your own private property only on specific holidays each year. Some Montgomery County communities have opted out entirely, so check your city or township first.
Ohio Revised Code 3743.45 lets any person discharge 1.4G (consumer) fireworks on private property, with the owner's permission, only on listed dates: January 1; Chinese/Lunar New Year; May 5; Juneteenth (June 19); July 3, 4, 5 and the Fridays–Sundays around July 4; Labor Day weekend; Diwali; and December 31. Ohio law lets every county, township, and municipality restrict those dates or ban discharge outright. Within Montgomery County, Harrison Township has banned fireworks discharge and Vandalia opted out of the state law, while other communities follow the state calendar. Always confirm your own jurisdiction's rules.
Discharging where banned is typically a first-degree misdemeanor: up to 6 months jail and a $1,000 fine (Harrison Township example). Illegal 1.3G display fireworks are a separate felony.
