Norwalk, CT Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Norwalk Code Chapter 38, Article II governs fireworks and firecrackers. Section 38-7 states that except as the article or state law provides, "no person, firm or corporation shall offer for sale, expose for sale, sell at retail or use or explode or possess with intent to sell, use or explode any fireworks, as defined in the Connecticut General Statutes, in the City of Norwalk," but carves out sparklers and fountains for buyers 16 and older. Anyone wanting to run a public exhibition needs a license from the Chief of the Fire Department under § 38-8: the license is good for exhibition purposes only, issued to someone skilled in discharging fireworks, expires no later than 30 days from issuance, must show its expiration date, names the approved location, is non-transferable, and only issues after the licensing authority inspects the premises and the applicant shows proof of at least $1,000,000 in liability insurance per accident for bodily injury and property damage.

Section 38-9 sets the license fee under the Fire Marshal's schedule of fees. m. 1: an owner who fails to schedule a timely inspection gets a delinquency letter and 10 days to comply before the Fire Marshal charges an inspection fee, and each additional day of noncompliance is a separate, escalating violation billed under the Fire Marshal's fee schedule.
