Grant County, WA Fire Regulations: Outdoor Burning (2026)

10, layers a year-round pile rule on top of a seasonal ban. 040, any pile of natural vegetation set for burning cannot exceed five feet in diameter or five feet in height unless the property owner gets prior approval from the Fire Marshal and the local fire district to go bigger; the owner also has to contact the fire district to find out whether a burn permit is required and must notify the district when burning actually starts. The same section bans burning garbage, trash or rubbish, and specifically outlaws burn barrels, at all times, and requires open burning to stay at least twenty-five feet from any structure or combustible material, with only one pile burning per property at once and someone on hand with extinguishing equipment.

070 layers an automatic, countywide burn restriction that runs every year from June 1 through September 30 in the unincorporated county, regardless of weather conditions that year; the Board of County Commissioners can extend the end date, or add emergency conditions, if fire danger stays high past September 30. The restriction does not preempt separate Washington Department of Ecology burn limits that already apply inside cities and Urban Growth Areas, which stay in force even after the county lifts its own restriction. 090 sets the penalty ladder.
