Outdoor burning rules in Quincy, MA β also called the burn ban, open burning, or fire restriction ordinance β set when you can burn yard waste, debris, or run a recreational fire.
Quincy is not in the Massachusetts year-round open burning ban list. Under MGL c. 48 Β§13, open burning is permitted seasonally with a local fire department permit. The burning season runs January 15 to May 1, 10 AMβ4 PM only.
Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) allows open burning in Quincy (unlike neighboring Brookline and Boston, which are permanently banned). Residents must obtain an open burning permit from the Quincy Fire Department before burning. Burning is only allowed January 15 through May 1, between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, and only when daily air quality conditions permit. You may not burn trash, refuse, or similar materials β only clean wood is permitted. Daily burn approvals can be checked via the MassDEP Air Quality Hotline: (800) 882-1497.
Burning without a permit or outside permitted hours is subject to fines under MassDEP and local fire codes.
