Stedman, NC Fire Regulations: Outdoor Burning (2026)

Section 61.05(C), part of the Environmental and Ground Nuisances article of Chapter 61, prohibits open burning of off-site collected debris, plant material, litter, rubbish, etc. within the Town's corporate limits. The language targets debris that has been gathered from somewhere else and brought into town to burn, and it sits in the same subsection as the town's rules on overgrown lots (§ 61.05(A)), dead-animal disposal (§ 61.05(B)) and junk storage (§ 61.05(E)). Chapter 61 as a whole was adopted March 4, 2010 under N.C.G.S. § 160A-174 to protect health, safety and property values, and it is administered by Cumberland County's Director of Planning and Inspections through the County's Code Enforcement Coordinator, per § 61.02(C).

Questions the Coordinator cannot resolve go to Stedman's own Board of Adjustment. As with the rest of Chapter 61, an alleged violation triggers a written notice of civil citation served by certified mail or in person under § 61.09, describing the condition and the corrective action required, and the property owner has ten days from service to appeal to the Board of Adjustment.
