Babylon follows NY Uniform Code requirements: smoke alarms on every story and in each sleeping area, carbon monoxide alarms outside each sleeping area. Since April 2019, all replacement battery smoke alarms sold in NY must have 10-year sealed non-removable batteries under Amandas Law successor legislation.
NY Executive Law 378 and 19 NYCRR Part 1225 require smoke and CO alarms in all residential dwellings. Amandas Law (2010) mandates CO detectors in homes with fuel-burning appliances or attached garages. Rental units inspected under Babylon rental registration require working detectors before issuance of certificate. Hard-wired interconnected alarms required in new construction and major renovations.
Building code violation: fines $250-$1,000 per violation. Rental units without working alarms cannot be legally occupied.
