Full Breakdown

Municipal Code § 11.40.190 sets minimum requirements for single-room-occupancy apartments, capped at twenty units per building. Alongside a private kitchenette, bathroom, and closet in each unit and shared laundry and community kitchen facilities, subsection (E) requires each unit to be equipped with hardwired smoke detectors with battery backup. This is a zoning-title standard tied specifically to SRO apartment development, not a citywide alarm mandate for all housing; general residential smoke-alarm requirements run through the state Building Code as locally adopted, not this section.

Violations & Fines

SRO development that fails to meet § 11.40.190's standards is a Title 11 violation, enforceable as an infraction or misdemeanor with abatement under Chapter 11.56, Enforcement.
