Cedar Park currently requires a Mobile Food Establishment (MFE) permit under Code Art. 6.06, but Texas HB 2844 (the Mobile Food Vendor Regulatory Consistency Act, effective July 1, 2026) shifts permitting to a single statewide DSHS process and largely preempts local food-truck permitting.
Article 6.06 of the Cedar Park Code of Ordinances ('Mobile Food Establishments') prohibits any mobile food establishment from operating without an MFE permit issued by the City, valid one year from issuance and required to be displayed during operation. As of June 1, 2023, permits must meet International Fire Code 2021 requirements, and applications are submitted through MyGovernmentOnline (mgoconnect.org). Effective July 1, 2026, HB 2844 (89th Legislature) preempts most of this scheme by creating a single statewide Texas Department of State Health Services permit; operators will no longer need permits from cities or counties to operate locally. Cedar Park retains authority over zoning, fire-code inspections, and right-of-way placement.
Operating an MFE without a current permit is a violation of Art. 6.06; general penalty Code §1.01.009 (Class C misdemeanor, up to $500, or up to $2,000 for public-health violations).
