Champaign, IL Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Food Truck Permits (2026)

1 of the Champaign Municipal Code governs mobile food trucks in the Central Business District, defined by ordinance as the zoning district labeled Central Business District on the City's Official Zoning Map. The City Manager designates the marked vending areas where trucks may park, posts signage in the right-of-way, and the City Clerk keeps maps of those areas available to the public. daily unless a sign states otherwise; a truck can occupy one spot for a maximum of four consecutive hours and then must wait at least two hours before returning to that same location; spots are assigned first come, first served, with no reservations; the service area cannot block vehicle, bicycle or pedestrian flow; no other vehicles, including the tow vehicle, may park in the vending area while the truck operates; tents, tables and chairs are barred, though one portable sign board up to six square feet is allowed on the sidewalk; noise from generators or music is capped at 75 decibels measured ten feet away; and operators must clear trash and debris within 100 feet of their vending spot.

Subsection (d) makes the permit itself explicit: no one may run a Mobile Food Truck in the Central Business District without first obtaining a transient merchant license from the City Clerk. B.
