Bayonne, NJ Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Sidewalk & Mobile Vending (2026)

Bayonne City Code § 21-33.4 puts day-to-day sidewalk enforcement in the hands of the Police Department: it is the duty of any Police Officer who sees a person peddling whom the officer does not already know to be licensed to require production of the peddler's license and to enforce the chapter against anyone found violating it. That enforcement power applies to the same broad class of foot and cart vendors defined in § 21-33.1. Section 21-33.5 narrows who is actually covered, excusing house-to-house delivery of milk, eggs, bread, newspapers and similar perishable goods, federal census takers and government surveys, and veteran or volunteer firefighters holding a special state license under N.J.S.A.

45:24-9, who need no peddler license but must still comply with every other applicable provision. Beyond the license check, § 21-33.6 requires that the equipment used by peddlers of ice cream, food, beverages, confections and related commodities on the sidewalk be maintained in a clean and sanitary manner at all times and remain subject to inspection by the Division of Health or its authorized agents. That inspection duty is not paired with a warning period: the Code states plainly that a violation found and not immediately corrected is grounds for revocation of the license, giving Bayonne's Health inspectors and police officers together a two-track sidewalk vending enforcement scheme built around the license check and the equipment inspection.
