Bayonne, NJ Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Bayonne's Design Regulations for off-street parking, City Code § 35-17.5, set the width limits that govern how far a homeowner can pave a driveway apron. In residential and commercial zones, a driveway curb cut is capped at 10 feet wide and each lot is allowed only one curb cut; other zones follow the City Engineer's standards for the specific use. Parking stalls for single-family, two-family and townhouse lots must measure at least 10 feet by 20 feet, though a stall as shallow as 16.5 feet is permitted where an existing one- or two-family dwelling's layout cannot accommodate the full 20-foot depth, provided no vehicle overhangs the public right-of-way.

For yard placement, § 35-17.5.c limits accessory parking on single-family, double-family and townhouse lots to no more than two vehicles when parked in the front yard; multi-family and commercial parking can sit in any yard but must stay at least five feet from the street right-of-way and three feet from any other property line. Parking areas serving uses other than one-, two-family and townhouse dwellings also need landscaped or masonry screening four to six feet high along the street and adjoining residential lots. Applications for a driveway or parking layout go through the Zoning Officer under § 35-31.2, who must render a decision within 10 business days of a complete submission; a denial can be appealed to the Zoning Board of Adjustment within 20 days under § 35-31.4.
