Bayonne, NJ Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Bayonne City Code § 35-17.4(b), part of the zoning chapter's off-street parking and storage restrictions, defines major recreational equipment to include boats and boat trailers, travel trailers, pick-up campers or coaches designed to mount on a vehicle, motorized dwellings, and tent trailers. That equipment may not be parked or stored on a residential lot unless it sits in a carport, an enclosed building, or behind the nearest portion of the building to the street, meaning a driveway spot ahead of the house line is off-limits for long-term storage.

The code carves out a narrow loading exception: the equipment may be parked anywhere on the residential premises for up to 24 hours while it is being loaded or unloaded. Whatever equipment is present, it can never be used for living, sleeping or housekeeping purposes while stored on the lot or in any unapproved location, closing off the common workaround of treating a parked camper as an extra bedroom or guest unit. The same section separately bars overnight parking of any commercial vehicle over 12,000 pounds gross weight anywhere on residential property, and requires that vehicles or trailers without current license plates be kept only inside a fully enclosed building, not in a driveway or side yard, on residentially zoned or used property.
