Full Breakdown
Before peddling, hawking or soliciting sales of any kind on Edison streets or door-to-door, a vendor must obtain an identification-badge license from the Township Division of Licenses and Permits. The application triggers a police background investigation, taking up to seven days, or 24 hours for renewals or applicants with a recent fingerprint clearance. The license costs a $10 fee plus a $26 investigation fee and a $2 refundable badge deposit. Licensed vendors may only work 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from April 15 to October 15, or 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. the rest of the year, Monday through Saturday, and no license runs longer than 90 consecutive days.
Violations & Fines
Selling without a license, or violating any provision of Section 11-1, is punishable under the general penalty in Chapter 1, Section 1-5; the Director of Public Safety may also revoke the license after notice and a hearing.
