Bergen County does not designate countywide vending zones. Mobile food vendors must comply with each municipality's zoning, setback, and time restrictions, which vary widely from outright bans to designated truck districts.
Vending location rules in Bergen County are set municipality by municipality. Some towns, such as Hackensack and Englewood, allow mobile vending in commercial zones with permits and minimum distances from brick-and-mortar restaurants. Others, including portions of Paramus and Ridgewood, sharply restrict or prohibit vending on public streets. Many municipalities require vendors to operate only on private property with the owner's written consent, away from intersections, and outside of school zones during dismissal hours. Bergen County parks operated by the Bergen County Parks Department require a separate concession agreement, not a peddler permit. State highways and Bergen County roads also typically prohibit on-shoulder vending under N.J.S.A. 39:4-60.
Operating in restricted zones may bring fines from $100 to $2,000, vehicle towing, permit revocation, and bans on future municipal vending licenses.
