Bergenfield, NJ Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

Bergenfield Borough Code § 344-29B requires every mobile food vendor, defined in § 344-29A as anyone selling non-prepackaged food or drink from a truck, van, trailer or pushcart, to hold an annual mobile food vendor license from the Department of Health at a fee of $150. The Department caps the citywide total at 10 active licenses and keeps a first-come, first-served waiting list for vendors when a slot opens through revocation or non-renewal.

Under § 344-29E(1), a mobile food vendor may operate only on private commercial, industrial or office property located in the M or B-2 zoning district, and only after the property receives a zoning permit from the Department of Building, Housing and Land Use. The property owner or an authorized agent must apply, submit notarized consent letting the vendor and Borough officials onto the site, and provide a contact phone number and email. The zoning permit runs for up to 90 days, is renewable without limit, and costs $50 per permit including renewals. Only one vendor may operate on a given property at a time, though different vendors may rotate through the same 90-day permit. The vendor's stand must sit at least 100 feet from the main entrance of any licensed restaurant, luncheonette or tavern serving food.

Vendors operating outside the M and B-2 zones, on public property such as parks, or on residential property need separate authorization from the Borough Administrator, generally limited to special events such as fairs, festivals or carnivals capped at five days. Inspections are conducted by the Department of Health, Building Department, Fire Department, Police Department and Borough Administrator.
