Full Breakdown
Section 135-25 is a time-and-place restriction rather than a map of approved vending spots. It applies to peddlers, defined in § 135-17 as people who go from home to home or from place to place, on foot or in a vehicle, selling or renting and delivering goods and services. The ban covers merchandise, food, beverage and other goods, so an ice cream or snack seller is caught the same as any other peddler during the school-day window of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The list is organized by lettered school groups, A through M. Lawrence Brook School covers Corona Road between Jean Road and Sullivan Way, Gage Road between Sullivan Way and Whitehall Road, and Sullivan Way between Gulf Road and Eggers Street. Smith School and Churchill School cover the entire length of Bonner Road, Marlow Road and Norton Road, plus Eggers Street between University Road and Taylor Avenue, westerly leg. Irwin School covers Racetrack Road between Route 18 and Summerhill Road. Bowne School covers Main Street between Route 18 and Old Stage Road. East Brunswick High School and Central School add the entire length of Camelot Drive, Lycoming Lane and Tudor Place, and Cranbury Road between Dunhams Corner Road and Summerhill Road.
Outside those blocks and hours, other rules still apply. A licensee must be parked immediately adjacent to the curb of a public street (§ 135-24), has no exclusive right to a location in the public streets, no stationary location and cannot work in a congested area (§ 135-26.1), and faces the weekday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. limit in § 135-22, except that peddlers of ready-to-eat food such as ice cream can run from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. any day.
Violations & Fines
A violation of Article III, which includes § 135-25, is punishable on conviction by a fine not to exceed $2,000 or imprisonment not to exceed 90 days, or both, and each day a violation occurs or continues is a separate offense. The Director of Public Safety can revoke a peddler license for good cause after notice and hearing, and the Township Council can revoke any Township license for a violation of any provision of the Code under § 135-8.
