Sarasota Zoning Code § VII-602(ii) sets the full operating framework for mobile food trucks, defined elsewhere in the code as a temporary, non-permanent vehicle, trailer, stand or cart used to prepare, cook or serve food or beverages. Location is the first gate: a truck may only park where the zone district's Article VI use table lists mobile food truck as a permitted use, and the operator must hold a business tax receipt covering both state and local requirements. The vehicle itself must be purpose-built and licensed under any state or federal agency with jurisdiction over the truck or the products it sells, and the operator must carry insurance meeting local, state and federal minimums.

Subsection (5)'s standards govern day-to-day operation. Vending from the public right-of-way is barred outright; the truck must sit on private property with the site owner's written permission on file with the city. Hours are fixed at 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, extending to 2:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Operators must supply separate refuse and recycling receptacles, keep the vending area neat, and haul away their own waste daily under the city's mandatory recycling policy (Chapter 16) and the grease-disposal rule at Sarasota City Code § 37-51. A truck parked more than three hours must document that employees have restroom access at the vending site. No more than three trucks may operate on one property at a time, though the city manager may raise that cap on G-zoned, city-owned properties. A parking space is required once more than two trucks share a lot, overnight parking is banned outside production-intensive commercial districts, amplified music or speakers are prohibited, no signage beyond what's on the truck itself is allowed, and alcohol sales are barred except under a special event or temporary commercial activity permit. Catering to a private, non-public gathering falls outside the section entirely.
