Syracuse, NY Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

Revised General Ordinances § 14-50(b) makes it unlawful to act as a mobile food vendor on a public highway, road or street except at site locations listed in the ordinance and mapped by the city clerk, and only with a permit issued by the commissioner of finance running January 1 to December 31. Food vendors selling from the sidewalk face a parallel rule in § 14-50(a), restricted to specific Class A, B and C addresses such as Clinton Square, Hanover Square, Columbus Circle and named street corners.

Independent of the site list, § 14-47 imposes blanket buffer distances that apply everywhere: no vendor may operate within 10 feet of a sidewalk corner, within 10 feet of a doorway or entrance extension, within 100 feet of a restaurant or fruit/vegetable market doorway extension, within 20 feet of a street intersection, or within 1,000 feet of a city event or a community event. Vendors must also keep a 25-foot radius around their stand free of litter, maintain a waste container for customer trash, and keep pushcarts or stands under 40 square feet absent a commissioner exception.

, and vendors must obey a city employee's or police officer's order to temporarily relocate for up to one day for public-safety or event reasons. Section 14-49 lets the commissioner of finance suspend a site permit for up to seven days, or the parks commissioner for up to three days, when a community or city event needs the space, with the affected vendor holding first right to bid on vending at that event.
