Full Breakdown
Under the County Zoning Ordinance, anyone holding a temporary special event in unincorporated DuPage County must file an application with the Zoning Division five days ahead of County Development Committee review: except residential garage sales, which are specifically carved out and need no application. In residence districts, a garage sale may also run Friday through the following Sunday instead of the standard one-day limit for other special events, but Sec. 37-700.8 restricts garage sales to no more than four per calendar year and no more than two consecutive weekends per year.
Violations & Fines
No permit exists to revoke, but exceeding the frequency or duration limits is a zoning violation: the County can issue a notice of violation and, if uncorrected, seek fines of $100 to $500 per week under Sec. 37-1417.
