Troup County, GA Garage & Yard Sales: Frequency, Duration & Permits (2026)

In unincorporated Troup County, outside LaGrange, West Point and Hogansville, yard and garage sales are a listed temporary use permitted in every zoning district under Sec. 6.1's Table of Permitted and Prohibited Uses, but Sec. 7.11(7) caps how often and how long they may run. Only three yard sales are allowed per property per year. Each sale is capped at 96 continuous hours (four days) and must be held in conjunction with a weekend, so sellers cannot spread scattered one-day sales across the calendar or run a sale mid-week outside that window.

The same subsection, Sec. 7.11, regulates neighboring temporary uses: open-air seasonal sales require a special-event permit, and temporary portable storage containers are capped at 90 days per lot per year. Vehicular parking generated by a yard sale cannot occupy locations 'otherwise prohibited by this article or other County regulations,' meaning sellers must keep cars off rights-of-way, sidewalks, and any spot that would violate off-street parking rules in Article VIII. Appendix D's definitions section separately defines a 'Yard Sale' as a one- or two-day sale of common household items from a residential lot, expressly including garage sale, carport sale, or rummage sale under that single umbrella, so every name for the activity falls under the same three-per-year, 96-hour cap enforced by the Community Development Department's code enforcement staff. No permit or fee is required for a qualifying sale as long as it stays within these limits.
