Troup County, GA Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Sec. 4.5, Fences and retaining walls, splits fence height into two regulatory tracks in unincorporated Troup County. In SU-R, SU-VL, and UR-VL, front-yard fences are capped at 4 feet, though agricultural and industrial uses in those same districts get an 8-foot allowance, and side and rear yard fences there max out at 8 feet. "All other zoning districts," which covers the county's dominant AG and AG-R land along with LR, LC, HC, LI, and HI, follow the separate rule in Sec. 4.5(4)(b): fences and walls there may reach 12 feet in side and rear yards and 6 feet in front yards, roughly half again higher than the SU-R track.

Fence posts and pillars in the front-yard track may sit an extra foot above the panel height limit. Corner lots in every zoning district face an added restriction under Sec. 4.6: within the sight-triangle formed by two points measured 20 feet along the property lines from a right-of-way intersection, no fence, wall, shrubbery, or sign may exceed 3 feet, and trees in that triangle must be trimmed so foliage stays above 10 feet, measured from the top of curb or, where there is no curb, from the edge of the traveled way.

A temporary chain-link security fence up to 6 feet tall is allowed around a demolition, rehabilitation, or new-construction site for up to 30 days before and after the work. The Community Development Director enforces both height tracks and the corner-visibility rule as part of zoning compliance.
