Walker County, GA Garage & Yard Sales: Frequency, Duration & Permits (2026)

Walker County's special events ordinance, Chapter 10 Article VI, otherwise requires a permit from the Planning Office for any organized public gathering, but § 10-265 carves out a specific list of exclusions. The first is yard sales: 'Individual or community yard sales are exempt from the permit if they do not exceed 4 days.' That four-day cap is the only limit the code sets on frequency or duration; nothing in the article restricts how many sales a household or neighborhood may hold across a year, and there is no separate garage-sale license or fee in the code.

The same section exempts children's events such as lemonade stands, and private parties hosted by an individual where no money changes hands, alongside church and religious gatherings, county-sponsored events, and regular civic-club or nonprofit meetings, though a nonprofit's public fundraiser still needs a permit. Once a yard sale runs past four consecutive days, it falls out of the exemption and back under the general special-events rules in §§ 10-239 through 10-264, meaning the seller would need to apply to the Planning Office at least 60 days ahead, pay the nonrefundable application fee, and meet the article's other conditions just like any other organized event.
