Allegany County, MD Home Business: Customer Traffic Restrictions (2026)

Section 360-88.E closes the home-occupation rules with a parking requirement that reaches beyond the vehicle-parking limits discussed elsewhere in the same subsection: off-street parking must be provided for any employees, customers and incidental traffic generated by the home business, in conformance with § 360-139. Section 360-139.B, the county's general off-street parking standard, requires that parking for employees, customers and/or visitors be provided according to Table 5, Parking Requirements, with all fractional space requirements rounded up to the next whole space. If a home occupation's specific use is not separately listed in Table 5, the Zoning Administrator determines the required number of spaces by comparison to the most similar listed use, such as professional and office uses (one space per 300 square feet of floor area) or retail sales (one space per 200 square feet of customer floor space).

Every required space must meet the general dimensional standard of § 360-139.A: a minimum of nine feet by 18 feet, accessible to an aisleway, alley or street, with at least a five-foot setback from any right-of-way and aisleways at least 20 feet wide between spaces.
