Bergenfield restricts home-occupation activity to a single client at a time for instructional uses and caps professional offices at no more than two persons employed total.
Under Article VI of Chapter 186, instructional home occupations such as music or individual tutoring may accommodate no more than one student at any given time on the premises. Permitted resident professional offices (physician, dentist, lawyer, architect, engineer, accountant, podiatrist, optometrist, chiropractor) may have a total of no more than two persons employed on site. These limits are designed to prevent customer traffic, parking, and noise impacts that would alter the residential character of the neighborhood.
Exceeding the one-client-at-a-time instructional limit, employing more than two persons in a permitted home office, or generating residential traffic and parking impacts may trigger zoning enforcement, fines, and orders to cease the home occupation.
