Bergenfield allows a single identification sign for a permitted home occupation in residential zones, but prohibits any other exterior advertising or display indicating commercial activity.
Article VI of Chapter 186 specifies that home occupations may not produce exterior evidence of the secondary use beyond a permitted identification sign. Residential-zone signs are regulated under the borough zoning schedule, and signs for home occupations must be limited in size, non-illuminated in most cases, and consistent with the residential character of the neighborhood. Additional commercial signage, banners, or window displays are not permitted.
Installing oversized, illuminated, or additional signs for a home occupation; using window or yard advertising; or maintaining any sign without zoning approval may result in zoning violations, removal orders, and daily fines.
