Richland, WA Home Business: Customer Traffic Restrictions (2026)

RMC § 23.42.090(C) sets the traffic rules that apply to every approved home occupation in the City of Richland, Washington. Subsection (C)(3) allows no more than four customer or client visits to the residence per day, and no more than one visit on the premises at any given time; a single visit is defined to include any number of people who arrive together in one vehicle, so a carload of four still counts as one visit. Subsection (C)(4) limits parking generated by the business to no more than three vehicles parked on or near the property at any one time, on top of whatever parking the residents themselves need.

Subsection (C)(5) confines both customer or client presence and any non-resident employee's presence at the residence to the hours between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., closing off overnight or early-morning business traffic in residential neighborhoods. These limits sit alongside the broader accessory-use structure in RMC § 23.42.090: no more than two non-resident employees may work on the premises concurrently, and one occupational vehicle up to 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight may be stored at the residence if parked off-street, with any additional business vehicles required to be stored off-premises.

Applications are processed through the Development Services Division alongside the business license required by RMC Title 5, and the administrative official can revoke approval in writing if a home occupation exceeds these traffic, parking or hours limits, which voids the use and requires it to stop.
