Walworth County Code § 74-45 defines a minor home occupation or professional home office as uses like a home office, data processing, telephone answering, direct sale product distribution such as Amway or Tupperware, dressmaking, tailoring, jewelry making, typing, tutoring, music lessons, and computer programming, conducted entirely inside the residence by the people who live there. Subsection (5) limits the work to residents of the parcel, and subsection (6) bars any employees on the parcel or employee vehicles except those belonging to a resident, cutting off the foot and vehicle traffic hired staff would bring.

Subsection (7) goes further and forbids on-site retail sales or display areas outright, meaning a home occupation cannot function as a walk-in shop even if it otherwise fits the size limits. Subsection (8) confines deliveries to what is typical for a residence, and subsection (14) bars any exterior entryway built or provided solely to serve the home business, so a homeowner cannot add a separate customer-facing door. The occupation is also capped at 25 percent of any floor's area under subsection (2) and must stay incidental and secondary to the residential use under subsection (3).

The Zoning Administrator and Committee, under Walworth County Land Use and Resource Management, enforce these limits. Section 74-46 requires a written notice identifying the property owner, the violation's location, and the section violated before enforcement, except that no new notice is required for a repeat violation of the same rule.
