Canyon County, ID Home Business: Signage Rules (2026)

Canyon County's Home Business standard, codified at § 07-14-11, allows exactly one identification sign for a permitted home business in unincorporated Canyon County, Idaho. Subsection (6) limits that sign to four square feet and expressly bars internal illumination and reflective construction materials, so a home business cannot install a lit box sign or a mirrored panel that would read as commercial signage in a residential or agricultural zone. This sign allowance travels with the rest of the Home Business permit conditions in § 07-14-11: the business must remain incidental to the dwelling, stay within one-third of the home's gross floor area, and employ no more than three people who do not live on site.

The county's separate Home Occupations standard at § 07-14-13(7) imposes a similar but not identical sign limit, capping a nonobtrusive, nonelectric sign with no moving parts at four square feet in message-board area for occupations that use no outside employees at all. Development Services Department staff review sign compliance as part of the home business permit and certificate of zoning compliance process. Both sign limits apply only within unincorporated Canyon County; a home-based business inside Caldwell, Nampa, or any other incorporated city in the county must instead follow that city's own sign ordinance, since Canyon County's zoning chapter does not extend inside those municipal boundaries.
